Every Leader programme is run by a Local Action Group. The LAG is a partnership of local rural businesses, farmers, landowners, voluntary and community sector organisations, government bodies and others who come together to apply for funding under the rural development programme. Successful Leader programmes, like ours, are then run by their LAG for the duration of the project.

The role of the LAG is similar to a management board, or board of directors. It sets the overall strategy for the Leader programme, formally known as the Local Development Strategy, and is responsible for overseeing the implementation of the LDS.

The LAG needs to be balanced and representative of the area, genuinely locally based and have an agreed structure and method of operation. Its membership must contain at least 50% non-public sector (i.e. local private, voluntary and community sector).

The Loddon and Eversley LAG currently comprises:

Chair - Robert Benford, local farmer
Vice Chair - Alison Cross, Hampshire Wildlife Trust
Vice Chair - James Hague, local farmer
Plus representatives from:
County council, District council, Parish council, Natural England, Forestry Commission, Environment Agency, Forestry, Farming and Rural Businesses, Voluntary sector groups.

The LAG will shortly be advertising for a full-time Programme Co-ordinator. The job description and application form will be advertised in the local press and on this site.
